Tigh Lals thatched cottage was built in the year 1760 and purchased by our grandparents in the late 1800s and has remained in the family ever since. Lal O'Flaherty lived in the cottage for all of her 90 years along with her brother Mattie, and following her death in 1991 the cottage was lovingly renovated to modern day standards. Although the interior of the cottage was refurbished, the exterior walls remain as they were in 1760!

Stables at the rear of the cottage were used by the Irish mail delivery service in the 1800s, providing fresh horses for the dispatch riders on their journey to the far reaches of Connemara.

The cottage has been photographed by tourists from all over the world and we look forward to welcoming you and your friends here in the near future.
